For those who have somehow missed the hype, this musical is the story of Alexander Hamilton one of the founding fathers of America written by the genius that is Lin-
Manuel Miranda. It won an incredible 11 Tony awards and made the jump across the pond in December 2017. Who’s not looking forward to this?! Tour Opens: Bristol Hippodrome. Open. Final night March 3rd 2018
It’s no secret to anyone that we’re Wicked fangirls through and through, so of course this had to make the list! There’s nothing quite like some fresh green blood to get us excited about this show again, and Amy Ross’ Elphaba fits the bill perfectly! Joining her on tour is Helen Woolf, who takes on the role of Glinda after understudying the role in the West End. The tour currently runs until 5th January 2019, so if you have yet to catch the Witches of Oz in action then check here to see if they’re playing at a theatre near you!
Theatre Royal Haymarket. February 9th to May 5th 2018
Not the Disney musical, you’ll have to head across the pond for that (opens on Broadway February 22nd). This play, by Bryony Lavery, stars BAFTA award winning actress Suranne Jones. Frozen is a psychological thriller which follows 3 individuals as their lives intersect following the disappearance of a 10-year-old girl. Tour Opens: Curve, Leicester. March 5th to March 24th 2018
The much celebrated Tim Minchin musical finally heads on tour this year after six years in the West End. The tour will see the return of Craig Els as Miss Trunchbull and Rebecca Thornhill as Mrs Wormwood, with Carly Thoms joining the show as Miss Honey. Click here to see if you can catch it!
Phoenix Theatre. March 26th to June 23rd 2018
Chicago is celebrating turning 21 and being the longest running American musical by coming back to the West End for a limited run. So far, the only cast announcement has been Cuba Gooding Jr as Billy Flynn who will make his West End debut. Chicago is notorious however for celebrity casting so we just hope that for this limited run they cast some real West End stars! Tickets available here.
Piccadilly Theatre. March 29th to July 21st 2018
Based on the Baz Luhrmann movie, this musical stars Zizzi Strallen and Jonny Labey as ballroom dancers Fran and Scott. At a time when Strictly Come Dancing has never had higher ratings this could prove to be a popular one. Including songs straight from the original movie, as well as some new additions that you might not have heard before, this is sure to be a people pleaser! Check here for tickets.
Young Vic. June 18th to September 1st 2018
The Broadway adaptation of Alison Bechdel’s graphic novel, Fun Home, is finally making its UK premiere this summer. Cast has yet to be announced, but with the direction of Sam Gold it’s sure to be a hit! Tickets for this are already selling fast, so click here to snatch up the remaining few tickets!
London Palladium. June 21st to September 8th 2018
Another one that’s making the transfer from Broadway. Rodgers and Hammerstein’s critically acclaimed The King and I tells the story of a relationship between the king of Siam and a British schoolteacher. Starring Tony award winner Kelli O’Hara and Ken Watanabe, the run was recently extended due to demand. This is sure to be one of the highlights of the year, check here for tickets.
Tour Opens: Royal & Derngate, Northampton. September 19th to October 6th 2018
Opening in its hometown of Northampton before heading around the country is the perfect way for this uplifting show to kick off its tour. On its route around the country this show is visiting theatres that rarely see this calibre of production making West End theatre truly accessible. Gielgud Theatre. September 26th to December 22nd 2018
What’s a top 10 list without a bit of Sondheim?! For the first time, the lead role of Bobby in this iconic musical will be played by a woman, Rosalie Craig. She will be joined by Tony and Olivier award winner Patti LuPone and Mel Giedroyc with further casting to be announced. Under the direction of Marianne Elliott, who brought us The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime and War Horse, the show is without a doubt in safe hands. This is not one to miss, so check here for tickets!
